Picking a light vs. dark TV stand for your living room

Living rooms require a strong focal point. One piece of furniture that can have a big impact is your TV stand. Whether you’re intent on revamping the entire house, or just touching up your living room, consider the following before purchase. For any TV stand, solid wood is the best, but not the only choice.

Light

Usually made from lighter or inexpensive woods, light TV stands are usually a good choice if you are trying to blend your TV stand in with the rest of your living room décor. If you want a light colored TV stand that is readily noticeable, try using contrasting colors such as pale red and tan.

Dark

Often made from hardwoods such as mahogany, dark TV stands are somewhat more prevalent than their lighter colored counterparts. Dark stands can be set in contrast to an otherwise bright room setting, but this will draw attention to your stand, so only get a dark TV stand if you want it to be the focal point of the room, what visitors will first see upon entering.

Light vs. Dark

Light furniture usually communicates a cheerier environment and dark furniture a, well, darker one. In most cases your best bet is to go with what feels like it best matches your living room, as the above rules are rules of thumb only, and may not apply in all situations.
